London Mixture
A good example of the skillful blending of Latakia with Virginia and Turkish leaf. Being of medium cut and strength it is ideal for the beginner. It has a pleasant aroma and a flavour which never seems to cloy.
Early Morning
A traditional Dunhill Mixture of mild and delicate flavour providing a satisfying, slow burning smoke. Sweet burning Oriental tobacco is carefully blended with bright and red Virginias, pressed and lightly stoved. The blend is further enhanced by medium-fired Latakia. Ideal for the 'first pipe' arousing the palate for the further pleasures of the day.
Standard Mixture
A traditional English smoking misture using the finest grades of pure tobacco. Cyprus Latakia and oriental tobacco from the Mediterranean is blended with flue cured grades from East Carolina and Georgia lightly toasted in our drying drum to enhance the flavour. This, our most popular tobacco, is available in both Mild and Medium forms, the latter providing a cooler, richer smoke ideal for the beginner.
Elizabethan
A romantic Virginia mixture using tobacco grades from the New World. Tobaccos grown in the areas of North America first colonized during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I are pressed to darken and enrich then carefully cut to ensure even burning. Costly black Perique is finally added to give the blend a stimulating flavour.

Three deliciously different cherry flavors-refreshing Duke,fermented Maraschino and rich Kansas Sweet-which is blended with middle belt lemon Virginia and black cavendish.
A basic combo of orchard fruit, nut and honey can be found. There is the real tobacco taste of the fine, American Virginias and Burleys and black Cavendish, but there is always the hint of sweetness. This is a classic.

Kretek Tobaccos
For 207 years, Samuel Gawith & Co. have been producing fine pipe tobaccos that have been enjoyed by all walks of life the world over. In the mountainous Lake District of Cumbria, the generations of Gawiths have been hand cutting, stripping and blending their tobaccos. The following is a description of a few of the many pipe tobaccos produced by Samuel Gawith.
1792 Flake
A full strength, mellow tobacco, comprising a blend of dark fired leaf. Our best-selling premium grade flake starts as 7 lbs of stripped leaf going through a steaming process prior to being pressed, the "cake" having been prepared, is wrapped in a selected leaf and packed by hand into a 12sq.in.press and left for a minimum of 2 hours. The next stage is to place the pressed "cake" into a steam press where it is baked at full heat for 2-3 hours. Once baked, the "cake" has taken on 1792s characteristic rich, dark colour. The "cake" is then hardened by being left to cool. The final process of cutting the flake and adding a tonquin flavouring is carried out followed by hand wrapping and packing ready for the pipe.
Best Brown 6" Flake
A firm favourite for the pipe smoker looking for a medium strength, gentle and slow burning tobacco. Manufactured using hand-stripped flue cured leaf, each cake comprises 7lbs, wrapped with selected prime wrapper leaf. After initial steaming, to achieve a pliable leaf, the "cake" is pressed and cooked for approximately 1-2 hours, sufficient time for the tobacco to develop its characteristic medium brown colour and its distinctive nutty aroma which can only come from the combination of prime leaf and the experience and knowledge of the person making the flake. No flavours are added to best brown flake although a sweetener is added to best brown scented. A good, even smoke, with no tongue-bite.
Grousemoor
An original blend from Samuel Gawith, Grousemoor conjures up a vision of the Lakeland Scenery with its accompaniment of seasonal scents. Manufactured in the heart of Lakeland for over 200 years, the blend and flavours that go to make up Grousemoor remain a secret, known only to three people within the company. Using a combination of hand-stripped flue-cured leaf, Grousemoor is first steamed prior to being cut. After further steaming, to give Grousemoor its own golden colour, the cut leaf is stoved then "rested". The final stage of production is the addition of a unique melange of flavours. Grousemoor is a 'must' for smokers who want their days to have "Spring in the air".
Skiff Mixture
Another Samuel Gawith original, Skiff is for the pipe smoker who appreciates the fuller flavour of an oriental blend. Blending a variety of different styles of flue-cured tobaccos gives Skiff its characteristic yellow and brown features. Its real identity comes with the addition of Turkish and a beautiful black cyprus Latakia giving the blend its full, round taste.
K.B.E. Mixture
For the dedicated smoker who demands a fuller flavour to the tobacco. K.B.E., another Samuel Gawith Bi-Centenarian, is a full-strength blend of 50% heavily steamed Virginia and 50% Cyprus Latakia.
K.B.E. Mixture
A relatively new blend developed by Samuel Gawith to satisfy the need of a local, well known pipe smoker who could not find a tobacco to suit his palate, even in London! At Samuel Gawith, we were able to meet the definitive requirements of this dedicated smoker by blending a variety of brown and bright Virginias with a touch of Latakia, steaming, flavouring with a hint of vanilla and adding a fine Turkish leaf. The verdict of the smoker : "PERFECTION"!
Scotch Cut Mixture
A great English favourite made up of pure high grade flue cured leaf with just a touch of Cyprus Latakia and black Cavendish. The resultant blend needs no additional flavours and gives a good clean, bold smoke.
Curly Cut
A mixture of flue cured and dark fired stripped leaf which has undergone a steaming process prior to being hand spun into a "rope" of tobacco. The "rope" is then sliced on a four inch mouth cutting machine to give the tobacco its curly - cut characteristics. Prior to packing the finished blend is dressed with a vanilla flavour. A slow, cool, but flavoursome smoke.
Squadron Leader Mixture
This tobacco epitomises the traditional English tobacco. Blended dark and bright Virginias, together with Latakia and Turkish leaf results in a perfect, medium bodied product which gives a rich slow burning smoke.
Lakeland Light
Cased hand stripped flue cured tobaccos which after cutting is stoved. A finer cut tobacco for an easy smoke.
Lakeland Mixed
A blend of cased and flue cured light and Dark tobaccos to give a medium strength - easy smoke.
Finest Kendall Twists
For over two centuries, the blenders and spinners of Samuel Gawith, Kendal, have been producing the famous Kendal Twists. Tobacco lovers the world over, both underground and on the ground, have been chewing our Pigtails and Bogies, whilst pipe smokers have savoured the rich flavours and slow burning characteristics of the thick brown No.4 and Black XX.
The process begins with the selection of our best quality, dark fired long filler leaf from various tobacco regions, together with selected flaw-free wrapper leaf, stripped of their main stem. The spinners prepare and then feed both filler and wrapper into the age-old spinning machine. This process cannot be mechanised or automated as it takes the experience and dexterity of two pairs of hands to produce an even 'rope of tobacco'.
The rope is spun into a roll, which is naturally brown - this is Brown Twist. Other rolls are subjected to a period of several hours in steam pressure whilst wrapped in rope & paper to prevent any flavour escaping and to seal in the sugars and oils naturally present in this leaf. This final product after cooling is a very black, pliable roll, giving a rich, mellow flavour.
According to customer taste, various flavours can be added to the finished product. Some of our popular flavours are black cherry, rum, whiskey and apple. All twists are available pre-packed or on the roll.
Because the process is almost entirely by hand, quality control ensures consistency of excellence.
